In 2017, the Kaohsiung City Urban Development Bureau invited university students to join the "Community Building Initiative." Through creativity and expertise, they collaborated with community volunteers over eight months to transform multiple vacant lots into green open spaces. These efforts improved the environment, deepened community identity, and successfully promoted civic engagement and grassroots development. The outcomes spanned five diverse themes: corner parks, ecological conservation, cultural charm, community gardening, and student involvement, with award-winning architectural examples serving as highlights. Each project represents a heartwarming story worth revisiting, documented in this book, Kaohsiung's Cool Community Projects, as a cherished record of the people and events behind these transformations.
The book cover features a square cutout symbolizing a window, allowing readers to glimpse the inner page patterns and creating a visual experience of inward exploration. The interior designs utilize "dots, lines, and planes" to construct elements of each thematic unit, symbolizing the gradual process of community transformation from small details to the broader whole. Illustrations depict individuals interacting with these elements, showcasing the vibrancy and human connections of community building.
